#EducationForGirls2021 Campaign

#EducationForGirls2021 Campaign

Why Education for Girls?

In Tanzania, especially in rural areas, girls spend on average between 3-6 hours per day on household work, such as cooking, cleaning, fetching water, collecting firewood, caring for children, the sick and elderly. Comparing with their counterparts, boys spend only 30 minutes to 2 hours on such tasks. In fact, from the time girls are born, they are seen within reproductive roles – childbearing, childcare and house chores. Even more heartbreaking is the fact that 2 out of 5 girls in Tanzania are married before they turn 18. This inevitably leads to early pregnancies and the reality of dropping out of school. The price is huge for girls in these situations, subjected to living with their untapped potential and talents never able to see the light of day.

Why is this Important?

For Tanzania to develop and function at its potential, women’s skills and talents should be engaged in activities that make the best use of those abilities. At C.PP.S. Mission Projects we believe authentic development is not separate from the foundations of freedom and equality. Following this view, we see development as a process of expanding freedoms equally for all people, closing the gaps in well-being between girls and boys. We also believe, anchoring gender equality in socio-economic norms change will require bottom-up, as well as top-down, approaches involving all of us. More importantly, girls themselves are also critical agents of change and should not be seen solely as “victims”. Empowering them with information on their rights, skills and ensuring that education structures enable them to claim their rights is the way that leads to authentic freedom.

What is Our Vision and Goal?

C.PP.S. Mission Projects’ top priority for 2021 is investing in girls by running this Education for Girls campaign and raising $100,000 over the next twelve months, so that they have the opportunity to find their sense of empowerment, attain literacy and have a safe environment through our education programs in Tanzania. The funds will provide full scholarships to 88 girls at St. Gaspar Primary School and 46 girls at Venerable John Merlini Secondary School for the duration of one year.

What Can You Do?

Investing and educating girls is one of the best gifts we can give to Tanzania, for today and for its long-term sustainable development. To empower girls in Tanzania, we need your partnership!

Your support of $65/month for 12 months (or $450 per year) will provide a girl with one year of  education at St. Gaspar Primary school

-or-

Your support of $110/month for 12 months (or $1300 per year) for a girl at Venerable John Merlini Secondary School

Any amount of support you can provide is much needed and highly appreciated in our initiative to help end child marriages, child labour and sexual exploitation through education.

Together we will work tirelessly to provide quality education and a safe environment for girls.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Girls and Women

The year 2020, marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, was intended to be ground-breaking for gender equality. Instead, with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic even the limited gains made in the past decades are at risk of being rolled back. The pandemic is deepening pre-existing inequalities, exposing vulnerabilities in social, political and economic systems which are in turn amplifying the impacts of the pandemic.
